The biggest mistake hair wearers make when removing their hair replacement systems is pulling the whole thing off. Even if your tape has broken down you should always use remover during this process. A little remover on a cotton swab or pad applied to the edge of the tape area works wonders. Gently work the swab or pad around the edge of your system breaking the adhesion bond without pulling the tape off your skin. Starting in the back gently remove your system rolling it forward until you reach the front edge. Using the remover in this process will not only keep your tabs in better shape by eliminating stress, it will also protect your skin. Think about removing a band aid. A quick pull will keep the sting down but it will also take hair and skin cells with it—which seems counter productive to me.

Once your system is removed you may begin the cleaning and total tape removal process.

For the sake of your skin and the integrity of your system PLEASE use remover for all aspects of your removal and cleaning process of tape tabs.

Begin by brushing your wig to remove any tangles. When brushing always start at the tips of the hair and work your way up to the front. This way you aren’t brushing any tangles through other tangles and avoid hair breakage. Once you have your wig thoroughly brushed hold it by the front edge and wet under a low pressure stream of lukewarm water. Once your wig is completely wet put a small amount of shampoo into the palm of your hand and emulsify with water. Starting at the tips of the hair begin lathering by pressing the shampoo into the hair. Avoid any rubbing or scrubbing while shampooing. Work your way up to the front of your wig and press the shampoo into the base of the wig. Continue to massage the shampoo through the wig. When you feel your wig is clean hold by the front again and rinse thoroughly at least 3 minutes to assure all the shampoo has been rinsed from the hair and especially the base material. You may want to repeat the shampooing process one more time to assure all residues and buildup is removed from the base of your wig. If you find areas that are stubborn use a “SOFT” bristle tooth brush in those areas to loosen the build up.

When conditioning with a rinse out conditioner, apply the conditioner in the same manner as the shampoo avoiding the base of your wig. Conditioner should only be applied and massaged into the hair and the ends are the most important area to concentrate on. Allow the conditioner to stay on the hair for a minimum of 3 minutes and rinse thoroughly for a minimum of 3 minutes. It is essential that you remove as much conditioner from the base as possible so try not to get any conditioner on the base at all.

Once your wig is cleaned and conditioned place it on a clean absorbent towel and gently roll the wig into the towel pressing to remove any excess moisture. Remove from the towel, hold by the front and gently shake the wig to fluff the hair. Using a broad brush or wide tooth comb starting at the tips of the hair go through your wig to smooth and remove any tangles there may be. Once you’ve combed through the hair shake the wig again to fluff the hair.

It’s best to place your wet wig on an open wig stand as opposed to a Styrofoam or canvas wig block. This allows your wig and base to dry completely. If using a hair dryer, we recommend an Ionic dryer and dry the wig holding the front and working the dryer through the hair as well as the base. You shouldn’t dry completely with the dryer. Leave the wig slightly damp and continue to air dry.

If you use a tape tab for tape or adhesive be sure to wipe these areas with alcohol before applying tape to assure all conditioner residue is removed from the tape tab areas.

You want to start your off the head cleaning with removing any tape, adhesive and residue from the tape tabs, base, lace front and hair.

Always use Adhesive remover when removing tape from the tape tab area. Even if you have a durable heavier tape tab, it will allow the tape to be easily removed eliminating any chance of damage to your system this is particularly important with all skin systems. We also recommend soaking your system in our Yellow Cleaner/Conditioner. This is a safe and effective all natural product that effectively breaks down the adhesives and loosens any residue in the mesh, lace or hair. To get that stubborn accumulation from your system use a “SOFT” bristle tooth brush and gently brush the residue away from the base and hair.

Once the tape, adhesive and residue have been removed, add a capful of shampoo to a basin or plastic container. Add lukewarm water and emulsify the shampoo in the water. Place your system base side up in the basin and gently swish in the soapy water. You may let your system sit for several minutes if you wish. (We suggest you repeat this procedure 2 to 3 times to assure all the cleaner/conditioner or solvent has been removed from the system) Rinse your system under lukewarm running water for at least 3 minutes and check to be sure all adhesive and solvent residues have been removed. Repeat the washing of your system if necessary.

If you choose to use rinse out conditioner, add a capful to your clean basin. Fill with water and emulsify the conditioner. Allow your system to soak for a minimum of 3 minutes and rinse thoroughly.

(When rinsing, hold your system by the front and allow a low pressure stream of water flow from the bottom of the base through the hair.)

Place your clean system on a clean absorbent towel and gently roll the towel with the system inside to remove excess water. Holding the system by the front of the base gently wave in the air to fluff the hair. You can then apply leave in conditioner and any styling product you choose. Gently brush into your desired style and let air dry if possible.

Before re-applying your tape or adhesive you may want to wipe the tape tab with a small amount of alcohol to remove any conditioner residue that may be on your tabs. This will allow for your attachment to work at its optimum.

It can’t be durable and natural at the same time… FALSE.

While you can easily achieve a more natural appearance with a system that is made with lighter more delicate materials it is not impossible to get the same result with a more durable construction.

Hair replacements being made today use a variety of base materials. Recently the trend has gone towards “Program Hair” meaning you have several units, change them frequently and throw away the system when it’s time to change to a new one. What this means is that the hair retailers in the recent past demanded that the manufacturers make products that were lighter, thinner and most importantly they wanted them cheaper and faster. This is where the breakdown begins.

If you require cheaper products manufactured at a faster rate, something has to give, and that’s quality. Once the retailers started getting their cheaper faster systems in they discovered that without the quality they had only one option and that was to sell the consumer more products. Keep them “addicted” to hair and get there hands on your credit card so they could keep charging you monthly whether you needed service or a new system or NOT. Great gimmick!!

This is what has trapped so many into programs where the retailer holds the customer’s additional hair replacements hostage to keep the customer’s business. Here’s the funny part – many of those retailers are still buying your systems one or at best two at a time. It’s your monthly fee that is paying for each new system you’ll require. In our 25+ years of working with retailers, the number who have actually ordered more than 3 systems at a time for a client is next to none. They just don’t do it.

If your hair replacement provider tells you your hair piece is custom, take it with a grain of salt. Most all program hair is stock and readily available for immediate delivery from one of the big wholesalers. Fast and cheap. These systems aren’t made to last longer than 30 to 60 days. Implanted hair and loops fall out like your own growing hair. They look great, for a while, but they aren’t intended for long term wear. We see this most frequently in Skin units as they are most susceptible to breaking down more rapidly than their mesh base counterparts.

If you want durability and a natural look we can give it to you. You won’t be using some of the materials they say are necessary for a natural look, but we’re certain you’ll be happy with the end result. It’s all a matter of taking your desires and your lifestyle into consideration and working with you to give you what you want and need. Remember the two areas that are most important for a natural look are the front of the hair replacement and the blending areas. Give us a call or email us. We can help.

When deciding between ordering custom hair or stock hair pieces there are a few issues to take into consideration up front. First can you be accommodated with stock hair pieces? If you’ve worn stock hair pieces in the past and it worked for you and you were comfortable with stock I would suggest you stick with it. Stock hair replacement systems are generally very consistent in many ways. The ventilation, base size and contour are always the same. Stock hair replacements become a part of the production that never varies as the specifications are set and the job of the manufacturer is to keep that consistent with every piece that’s made.

Custom is required when a stock hair piece won’t work because of size, color, hair density, hair style, contour and frontal design. Generally speaking most will be accommodated with stock but there is nothing like a custom system for best in fit and appearance. We can help you determine what will be best for you based on your requirements and desires. Call us for a Free Phone Consultation and we’ll tell you honestly which way we think you should go. Naturally we make more money on a custom order but we want you to be happy and come back to us for your future hair replacement needs and we really do want what is best for you.

Virtually all the hair being used in hair pieces available on the net and in the salons is processed hair. There are several reasons for “Processed” hair. First, the hair used in productions comes from many heads. The hair must be treated to reduce or flatten the cuticle. The typical technique is an acid wash that causes the cuticle to flatten to the hair shaft. With the cuticle flattened it is less likely to catch on other hairs causing extreme tangling. It is impossible to remove the cuticle as this is the protective layer of the hair shaft not unlike our own skin.

The newest method of flattening the cuticle is the use of Silicone based products. Silicone on the hair shaft fills the cuticle and damaged hair and protects it. The silicone used is more concentrated than the hair care products you’ll find available in the salon and will remain on the hair for an extended period of time. It will however eventually wash off. This is why you sometimes get a hair replacement system that’s ok for awhile then suddenly after a washing, tangles. Silicone is almost always used after acid wash to give the hair a smooth silky feel and greater shine.

Processed hair also includes bleaching, dying and chemical waving (Perms). 99.9% of human hair used in production comes from China and India. Generally the hair most suited in China comes from regions where the diet consists more of wheat products than rice products. The growing hair in these regions has more characteristics found in European hair, meaning it is softer and has a thinner diameter than hair coming from other regions of China where the hair is straighter, thicker and generally very straight.

The hair used comes in basically 3 shades—Black, Blacker and Blackest. In order to meet the demand of the Western market this black hair has to be bleached down to get the myriad of colors of hair found in the Western world. For the darkest colors generally you’ll find 100% Indian hair is used. There is enough color difference in Indian hair to accommodate all dark shades with minimal bleaching. Indian hair is more like Caucasian hair in diameter and wave. For dark red and brown colors the will have a combination of Indian and Asian hair. While the hair undergoes more bleaching than the dark shades the inclusion of the Asian hair helps to buffer the chemical treatments required and the two types of hair become more Caucasian in appearance.

For the Lightest shades of Blonde and Red it is almost exclusively Chinese hair that is used. The reason for this is that the Chinese hair can be bleached to a higher level than Indian hair. If the factories were to bleach Indian hair to the level needed for the lightest blonde colors the hair would turn to MUSH. Chinese hair once bleached to the highest level becomes softer and more accepting to color and perms. However, this is the most delicate color range to work with. The amount of hair lost to High Level colors is tremendous which is why it is sometimes more expensive to obtain a product with very light colored hair.

This is an incredibly huge subject but let’s just say that Processed hair is the norm, it’s probably in your current hair replacement and it is designed to make your life easier by eliminating the negatives connected with Cuticle / Virgin hair.

Hair-Necessities has been proudly serving the online hair replacement community for over 2 years. Our consumer-friendly wholesale pricing and strong commitment to customer service has skyrocketed us to the head of the pack in the online hair replacement industry. We’ve sold thousands of hair replacement systems, hair piece tapes and other hair replacement products in just 2 short years, and we have you to thank for making us, by far, the fastest growing hair replacement company on the web.

We’ll really miss our old website, but we’ve known for quite a while that it will never be able to continue to accomodate the extremely high volume of traffic we receive from clients around the world on a daily basis. That’s why last night, June 20th, 2008, we fully relaunched hair-necessities.com and packed it full of features that are sure to enhance the customer experience.

What’s New with Hair-Necessities 2.0?

When we decided to roll out a redesign of the website, we didn’t just want to make some new graphics and change around the design, we wanted to fully rebuild our website from the ground up, add new features that will make using the website easier and more efficient, and add more resources to help educate our buyers. Here are some of the new features available on our website:

Brand New Shopping Cart Technology!

We wanted to enhance the shopping experience and make ordering online easier for everyone, including internationally. We ditched our old shopping cart and started fresh with a dynamic new e-commerce system. The benefits to you will include – a 1 page checkout system that will save you a lot of time and is far less confusing, a smarter shopping cart interface that will be able to smoothly process international orders, a more accurate shipping calculator that will calculate your actual USPS shipping cost down to the gram, an order tracking system that will email you tracking information on your order once it has been shipped – Priority and Express Mail orders only, a coupon code system that will allow us to run frequent promotions and discounts to give back to our loyal customers, and last but not least, previous orders will be saved in your account so you can duplicate a past order with the click of a mouse.

Education and Community Resources

We didn’t want to stop at the shopping cart. Our goal was to design our new website so we could pack it full of useful hair replacement resources, and continue adding to it regularly.

You’ve already seen our Blog, which we will use to provide frequent hair replacement news, new product updates, inventory updates and special discounts for our readers. You are also free to interact with our growing community by posting comments on our blog. We welcome your input!

We’ve added a brand new Education section to our website featuring all kinds of useful information. You’ll learn how to choose the right base style, whether you need a stock or custom hair replacement, attachment tips, hair and skin care tips and more! We’ll also debunk some common myths from the hair replacement industry and reveal terms and buzz words our competitors use to try and trick consumers.

Look for our message boards coming in the next week. These message boards will allow our customers to interact with our support staff and each other, ask and answer questions and provide feedback on our products. We think it’s important to give all of our visitors a chance to interact and learn as much as possible so that making an informed purchase from us is easy!

New Products

There’s no denying, our bread and butter over the past 2+ years has been affordable, ready made hair replacement systems and high quality hair piece tape. We’ve thrown in some other nice products along the way, but we’ve decided that our customers deserve more options. Starting yesterday, June 20th, we’ve introduced a full line of Max Adhesive products. This includes grafting solution, liquid adhesives, adhesive remover and more. Our pricing is extremely competitive because we want consumers to truly be able to get these products at wholesale prices.

We haven’t stopped with Max Adhesives.
